Schoolyard Safari 

Science and Technology

Commencing with a short presentation about invertebrate features, the students will then become invertebrate investigators as they search the school for creatures big and small. Once found, the students will examine and identify what they have found using magnifiers and ID charts.

Frog Features

Students will learn all things frogs during this interactive and highly enjoyable day of learning at your school. From meeting live frogs to learning about frogs through game play, your students will become frog experts by the days end.

Nature journalling is a way of recording observations of the natural world through drawing, writing and painting. Nature journalling originated as a scientific practice for recording observations. It is a practice that contributes to wellbeing and connection to nature.

Powerful Predators  

Science and Technology

The Powerful Owl is the largest of Australia’s owls and one of the most threatened local bird species. During the program, the students will learn about the features of the bird, its habitat and the significance of the local environment to its continued survival. The students will also gain an understanding of how they can protect the powerful owl and it’s habitat through creating habitat and in particular, nest boxes.

During the program, the students, from up to three classes each day, will learn the techniques to take great photographs using the natural areas of their school as the subject.

Exploring Local Nature Places

Many schools have areas of bushland near their school which provide an amazing learning opportunity. During the whole day program, your students will explore these areas and learn more about the historical and ecological importance of the local bushland areas.

The tracks and trails will be assessed by Gibberagong staff prior to the day for suitability of learning and risk.

Birds, Beaks and Black Cockatoos   

Science and Technology

The Glossy Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus lathami) is one of the rarest and most threatened of Australia’s large, black cockatoos. During the program, the students will learn about the features of the bird, its habitat and the role of this amazing bird in the natural environment. The students will also learn about the different types of bird beaks before they design and make their own beak using a variety of different materials.
