Gibberagong EEC offers and advertises a range of Professional Learning opportunities for teachers on environmental and sustainability education. These range from NSW Teachers Institute accredited courses to collaborative video conferencing. The staff at Gibberagong EEC are available to work with your school to design a Staff Development Day or TPL Session to specifically target the needs of your school.

Geography TPL – 1 hour afternoon TPL session

Gibberagong EEC is able to provide a 1 hour afternoon TPL sessions for schools interested in gaining an increased understanding of the new Geography syllabus, with a particular emphasis on the geographical inquiry process, fieldwork and the use of geographical tools.

Geography TPL on-line

The first two of three Geography K-10 Implementation online courses are now live.

Three registered online professional development courses will support the implementation of the Geography K-10 syllabus (2015).

The first two courses have now been uploaded online and accessible via the hyperlink in their headings.

  1. Your school and the geography syllabus K-10 (3 hours) RG 00440
  2. Planning to teach geography K-10 (3 hours) RG 00441

These courses require DET portal log in.

The third course is currently being finalised:

  1. Programming for geographical inquiry(3 hours) RG 00443. This course has an additional 1 hour module on geographical tools, which will also be published as a stand-alone resource.

 Whole School Aboriginal Staff Development Day

Join Aboriginal and education experts in the magnificent Muogamarra Nature Reserve to explore culturally significant sites within Northern Sydney and gain an insight into the traditional practices of the local indigenous people. During the full day program, your whole staff will have an opportunity to increase their knowledge of local Aboriginal culture and lifestyle with the aim of embedding more locally relevant content into their teaching programs.

The NSW AECG now provide a number of accredited professional learning workshops for teachers including:

  • Water for Stage 4 Geography
  • Living Things An Aboriginal Perspective for Stage 2 Students

Teacher Open Day at Muogamarra Nature Reserve

Join Gibberagong Environmental Education staff in the stunning Muogamarra Nature Reserve for a special Teachers Open Day (usually in October). Muogamarra Nature Reserve, which is closed to the general public for all but six weekends a year, covers approximately 2500 ha of some of the most pristine bushland in Sydney in which reside a wonderful diversity of flora and fauna. The day will feature a short presentation by Gibberagong staff on student programs offered in Muogamarra, a BBQ breakfast and a choice of bushwalks.

Hornsby Environment Network for Schools (HENS)

Hornsby Council has established the Hornsby Environment Network for Schools (HENS), a networking group for teachers from all schools within the Hornsby Shire.Council, along with DET and local schools facilitate regular workshops. The workshops are run after school (once per term ) and offer an informal setting for learning, chatting and networking with other teachers, guest speakers and Council staff.
